Live: Young the Giant
It's been a minute since I've done a blog post. My bad. Nearly 10 years ago my brother and I went to a local band's show at Chyro Arts Center in Scottsdale. I'm pretty sure that venue is now a smoke shop. It was probably about as big as your living room though and had a couple couches along the walls as well. A band from California called the Jakes played at this show and we bought an EP from them for a dollar. Fast forward a couple years and I heard "My Body" on the radio and was racking my brain trying to figure out why the voice sounded so distinctly familiar. The Jakes was now Young the Giant and climbing charts. Somehow in the last 10 years I still haven't gotten around to seeing them live again which I'm a bit ashamed of, but at the same time it was kind of amazing to go from that tiny show to a sold out 1800 cap venue show. The one song that was on that original EP that carried over to YTG's first album was Cough Syrup, so especially seeing that song played live again in a drastically venue was such a trip. Anyway, the band put on an amazing show and I've never once been surprised that they've had the success they do. They put on such a clean performance. The lead singer, Sameer knows how to work the stage and fill it with sweet dance moves. That venue had nothing but love and positivity in it. They played a good mix of old and new songs. Really no complaints at all and I need to not let another decade go by before seeing them again.
